Job Description

General Job Summary:

Performs functions associated with all manufacturing operations, including working with engineers in set-up and calibration tasks, as well as performing rework and quality testing related to the production of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies. Candidate will assemble mechanical assemblies of varying complexities using engineering drawings, special work instructions, or verbal instructions to achieve specified requirements. Light fabrication as required for prototyping and engineering change requirements. May spend significant time assisting electrical assemblers or less senior mechanical assemblers. You may be working with engineering to diagnose and solve problems that occur during the manufacturing process. You may be required to assist less experience department personnel.

Essential Job functions:


  • Duties are performed under minimal supervision
  • Uses sophisticated programs to collect and evaluate operating data and conducts adjustments to products, instruments, or equipment
  • Determines and assists in developing methods and procedures to control or modify the manufacturing process
  • Works with engineers in conducting experiments
  • Works on assigments requiring considerable judgement and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions
  • As a skilled specialist, completes tasks in resourceful and effective ways
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments. May act as an informal leader
  • Other job duties as assigned

Supervisory  responsibility:


  • None

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Ability to assemble highly complex electro-mechanical sub-assemblies and assemblies (no soldering) per drawings and/or special instructions
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Ability to modify existing trainers as required
  • Ability to install sub-assemblies into training devices per drawings and/or special instructions
  • Ability to evaluate and suggest changes or improvements to engineering drawings as required
  • Ability to assist electrical technicians in performance of their essential job functions
  • Ability to fabricate and assemble prototypes as necessary
  • Ability to work with shop management and other company personnel to ensure the timely completion of assigned tasks
  • Ability to work largely unsupervised in performance of daily tasks
  • Ability to work with and monitor less senior assembly technicians when assigned larger tasks
  • Ability to perform "In-Process-Inspection" on all types of parts and assemblies

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 10 years of experience
