We have an exciting opportunity for a Software Defined Network (SDN) Application Engineer in our Edge / Tactical Solutions group based out of Chantilly, VA.  The SDN Application Engineer will support customization and delivery of our cloud-based OpenSpace SDN solutions for tactical edge communication applications (SATCOM ground terminals/gateways and multi-access edge compute (MEC) deployments).  The successful candidate will be able to work in highly technical cross-functional teams, have good organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task across different projects.  Hybrid remote/in-person work options are available.

 Essential Job Functions:

  • Software development, integration, and testing.
  • System administration and deployment configuration.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and mentor for junior-level engineers.
  • Support documentation and provide input to customer reviews and meetings throughout project lifecycle (preliminary and critical design reviews, technical interchange meetings, etc.)
  • 10% Travel is required. 


Experience and Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • Demonstrate a firm grasp of SDN, NFV and Cloud computing concepts.
  • Experience deploying cloud environments, edge devices, VM’s, and related tools (Azure, AWS, OpenStack, VMWare, etc).
  • Experience with orchestration and network automation tools (e.g. OpenDaylight).
  • Experience with VNF development and implementations.
  • Experience deploying containers using Kubernetes (k8s) or lightweight Kubernetes (k3s) and Helm charts.
  • Knowledge of network technologies including MPLS, OSPF, routing, IP, TCP/IP, ICMP, Wireshark, SNMP and multicast.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to interface with customers.
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance are required.

Preferred Skills: 

  • Graduate degree in communications, networking, or digital signal processing (DSP).
  • Experience with web interfaces and scripting languages (REST, HTML, Python, etc).
  • Experience supporting telecommunications (4G/5G) or SATCOM networks.
