Job Description

5-D Systems, Inc. a KRATOS company, is seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill a Safety Engineering role and be a key member of a team supporting a US Army government project office (PO)’s International Programs team, ensuring adherence to applicable service and agency safety policies, criteria, and standards to support Foreign Military Sales programs.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing system safety expertise to established design criteria and requirements
  • Performing independent safety analyses, studies, and design evaluations of systems, subsystems, and equipment
  • Evaluating contractor’s safety engineering program plans to ensure goals and objectives are achieved
  • Establishing safety test requirements, plans, and programs
  • Reviewing technical manuals, publications, and reports to validate that adequate safety information, warnings, and procedures are prescribed for personnel protection and system operation
  • Supporting accident/incident investigations
  • Travel to both laboratory and operational test sites to assess system safety and eliminate existing hazards

Experience and Skills

  • Expert knowledge of safety principles, regulations, and practices including experience carrying out hazard control techniques as well as conducting risk analysis on weapons systems
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office products
  • Be able to think independently and be self-motivated, with proven organizational skills, ability to multi-task and support varied assignments

Qualifications:

  • Be a US citizen
  • U.S. DoD Secret Clearance or higher
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or Master’s) in an Engineering oriented discipline or safety related field
  • 4+ yrs. of relevant experience
  • Expert knowledge of safety principles, regulations, and practices including experience carrying out hazard control techniques as well as conducting risk analysis on weapons systems
  • Ability to travel as needed to test sites and equipment locations (travel estimated around than 25% per year)

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with air and missile defense systems is a plus
  • Excel in communications techniques to effectively lead safety efforts
  • Experience demonstrating timely identification of hazards and initiation of actions necessary to eliminate or reduce the risk level
