Job Description

Kratos Defense and Rocket Support Services is currently seeking an SQL Database Administrator in support of the PEO Aviation ITSS contract at Redstone Arsenal.

Primary responsibilities will be to provide full spectrum SQL database administration including but not limited to SQL Server 2014, 2016, and 2019 leveraging SQL Server Management Studio. The responsibilities will include but are not limited to database design, administration, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, monitoring, integration, backup/recovery, optimization, documentation, and problem resolution. Candidates should be able to implement, maintain and perform patching and upgrades as required of SQL database hosted in both on-premise and cloud environments. Responsibilities will also include hardening of the SQL databases as well as maintaining compliance with the Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
PRIMARY –

  • Installations, configurations, upgrades, and migrations of SQL Server.
  • Day to day operational activities related to the SQL database administration including but not limited to production of data artifacts, backup and recovery, query creation and modification, etc.
  • Application of support packages and installation of related add-on software components.
  • Working under a change management process using ServiceNow

SECONDARY –

  • VMware administration
  • Windows administration
  • Experience using DB tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Spotlight, SSMS, SSRS
Responsibilities include:  
  • Maintain SQL databases on SQL Server 2014, 2016 and 2019 using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
  • Set permissions on certain databases based on customer driven requests
  • Performs high-level, day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for database management systems workstations and SQL servers on Windows Operating systems.
  • Produce various data artifacts to satisfy data requirements
  • Work on writing queries and tuning already existing queries for better performance.
  • Clearly communicate highly technical details to customers who have little or no database knowledge
  • Support various DBA activities
  • Write and implement algorithms to improve data quality
  • Provide database backups and updates using automatic processes
  • Collaborate with product team and customers
  • ·Develop and document functional requirements, working with customer, project, and technical team
  • Develop required documentation to support implementation such as data dictionary and data diagrams
  • ·Implements and maintains patches / upgrades to the required database engine software in both a VMware and AWS cloud environment
  • Follow agency change management process for database related changes using ServiceNow
     
    Note: This position is temporarily a remote/ virtual / work from home position due to COVID-19, but will ultimately be required to be on-site in Huntsville, AL with a possibility of semi-remote work once restrictions are lifted for this location

Experience and Skills

REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree and (8) or more years of experience
  • Security+ Certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Self-motivated, professional, with demonstrated progressive experience
  • ·Experience working with various DBMS such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL Server
 
 
DESIRED: 
  • ·Microsoft SQL Server, PostGres, Oracle, RedShift
  • ·Erwin, SQL Workbench, Informatica, AWS
  • Experience setting up DBs tools such as PowerBI,Tableau, SpotLight, SSMS, SSRS, AWS QuickSight, ThoughtSpot, UiPath, etc would be a plus.
