Job Description

The Designer will be responsible for the development and preparation of drawings using Solidworks and other CAD tools to support manufacturing for SATCOM components. Applicant will provide expertise in the designing and drafting of mechanical equipment and systems.

Applicant should be an innovative thinker and problem solver, with exceptional communication skills, exhibit great attention to detail, be capable of completing multiple projects within budgeted timeframes, and be a team player. The Designer will report to the VP, Engineering.

Essential Job Function:

• General design and drafting of mechanical designs; provide support to the engineering staff

•  Develop detail drawings, assembly instructions and Bill of Materials using an ERP system

• Modify and revise designs to correct operational and manufacturing discrepancies

• Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets

• Develop and prepare engineering drawings, diagrams or layouts from sketches

• Incorporate Engineering Change Orders for existing product line

• Participates, as needed, in design meetings to fully understand projected outcomes

Experience and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or certification in Computer Aided Design or a related field

• Computer proficiency in SolidWorks with five year’s experience including standardize drafting practices

• Five years of experience supporting mechanical products and assemblies in a fast paced environment

• Five years of experience in a manufacturing oriented environment with MRP/ERP business systems

• Proficient in Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASTM Y14.5-2009

• Strong working knowledge and adherence to drafting standards

• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office 2010 or later

• Ability to develop accurate manufacturing specs in a timely manner

• Must have the ability to partner with internal customers in order to develop manufacturing specs effectively

• Ability to create preliminary designs or computerization of design

• Detail drawings electromechanical works

• Excellent planning and organizational skills

• A tenacious personality that will not let an issue be left unresolved

• Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi- tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques

• Conviction to improve personally and support continuous improvement in the department and company as a whole

• Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software packages

Work Conditions

• Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
• Limited travel may be required.
• Ability to physically inclement designs.
• Overtime as required.
• May be exposed to hazards associated with manufacturing.
• Must be comfortable with the possibility of working outdoors or in extreme temperatures.
