Job Description

The Test and Evaluation Operator is responsible for the Test, Calibration & Equipment Operation including vibration tables, spin balance, bend test fixture, and air bearing.

The Test and Evaluation Operator activities utilizes knowledge of technology, production methods and procedures, and capabilities of test and calibration machines and equipment, and is responsible to the Kratos Defense & Rocket Support Services (KDRSS) Test and Evaluation Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Trains and mentors junior and new hires/transfer Test, Calibration & Material Shop personnel, as necessary.
  • Implements safety precautions, production practices, testing & calibration procedures, Quality Management Systems (QMS) procedures, and other company practices.  
  • Implements the quality of testing, calibration & material produced.
  • Evaluates processes and practices for more efficient and effective methods and recommends changes as needed.
  • Anticipates issues to prevent problems and reports problems as they occur.
  • Supports periodic program and mission IPTs, as required.
  • Supports Anomaly Investigation Boards, as required.
  • Participates in selected programs, events, and meetings involving staff, Government customers, and visitors.
  • Works with Test and Evaluation Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Engineering and Quality on process improvements.
  • Works with the Safety and Mission Assurance Manager & Quality Engineer to incorporate the application of the appropriate level of ISO 9000 process improvement.

Experience and Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of compliance elements for ISO & EVMS.
  • Understanding and experience with testing, calibration & material fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated passion for customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.
  • Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.

 Additional Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Testing, Calibration & Equipment Operation experience in the Sounding Rocket or Ballistic Missile industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of KDRSS operations and procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of NASA & military operations preferred.
  • May require up to 25% travel to support technical meetings, design reviews, other reviews & meetings and launch operations.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School degree or GED with five (5) years of Test, Calibration & Equipment Operation experience.
  • Knowledge of specific Wallops Flight Facility (WFF) and White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) operations a plus.
  • Experience with NASA or military rocket programs involving space domain topics a plus
  • May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Works in a smoke free manufacturing environment,
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand.
  • Long periods of sitting as well.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • SME may be expected to travel more frequently than a regular supervisor to facilitate data gather and customer relations opportunities.
