Job Description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Leads multidisciplinary mechanical design teams in the mechanical engineering analyses, design, drafting, development, testing and support of hardware training system.  Efforts include all related mechanical engineering requirements including but not limited to structural, material, thermal, and fabrication methods in support of program objectives and requirements.  Works collaboratively with Project Engineers, Manufacturing, Logistics, Electrical, Quality, Test and other technical disciplines as part of a combined integrated product team.  Estimates workload requirements for assigned effort.  Conducts make-buy analyses and cost-benefit trade-off studies pertaining to requirements and budget constraints. Oversees efforts of lower level engineering and design drafter personnel assigned to the IPT. Provides status input and tracking of assigned tasks.  Interfaces with senior customers and corporate personnel. Candidate will be responsible for leading and developing new mechanical design for training devices and modifying existing designs to improve performance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to lead lower level Mechanical Engineers and Design Drafters and assigns project specific tasking
  • Ability to apply engineering disciplines to support design, development, implementation and operation activities
  • Ability to work under general supervision, follows established procedures, and solves routine problems in the engineering discipline
  • Ability to assist in definition, trade-off and design activity
  • Ability to review, evaluate, and analyze designs
  • Ability to prepare, review, and evaluate documentation, specifications, test plans and procedures.
  • Ability to assist in definition, analysis and allocation of requirements
  • Ability to support test programs and analyzes testing

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Required:

  • Possesses strong working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering industry practices, standards and technology areas
  • Ability to perform designs using Autodesk Invertor and/or AutoCAD
  • Ability to estimate task workload and track to program schedules
  • Ability to conduct analysis of requirements and components and supports audits conducted to ensure intended functionality and performance is achieved
  • Must have 3D Modeling design and ability to work with other mechanical engineers and drafters to complete complex system and component designs
  • Must have experience with stress and structual design analysis and creating drawings to document designs

 Preferred:

  • Good leadership and communication skills
  • Good reasoning abilities. Sound judgment
  • Autodesk Inventor modeling experience
  • Knowledge of mechanical design for training systems and reverse engineering techniques
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 for dimensioning mechanical drawings

  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline
  • Minimum Eight (8) years related experience
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in workload estimating, task assignment, tracking, and status reporting
