Job Description


The Senior Vice President of Operations is responsible for management of the overall execution within the organization.  The Senior Vice President of Operations provides overall leadership, direction, and guidance to the operational activities of the organization focused on execution of our contracts and internal projects, on-time delivery of compliant, high quality products (hard and soft), and with the ultimate objective of achieving the company goals; short-term, annual, and long term here at KUAS.



The primary roles of the Senior Vice President of Operations fall into five broad categories:

  1. Drive the successful performance and delivery of the organization – lead and drive execution across the programs and products development/production including.

    • Supply chain, engineering, program management and manufacturing

  2. Shape and develop the organization to support execution of the annual and longer term company plans.

  • Ensure proper structure in business areas and departments to achieve the company goals.

  1. Lead managers to evaluate and take actions that are consistent with your execution expectations.

  • Mentor direct reports and other personnel in the organization.

  • Challenge basic assumptions underlying each area’s operations.

  • Act as a sounding board for VPs, directors, managers.

  1. Manage business unit’s performance against AOP goals.

  • Deliver on time and on budget.

  1. Advise the Division President on strategic operations development and key corporate planning issues that relate and impact the operations of the company.

  • Determine resource allocation among areas.

  • Keep the Division President informed about business activities, performance, opportunities, and recommended courses of action.

  • Manage organization operations by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established goals, objectives, and policies.
  • Implement programs to ensure attainment of business plan for growth and profit.
  • Provide direction and structure for operating departments.
  • Implement improved processes and management methods to generate higher ROI and workflow optimization.
  • Develop and create policies/processes/procedures aligned with organizational goals.
  • Understand Financial Statements.
  • Work with Vice President of Finance in preparing Annual Budgets.
  • Represent the company to the customer community, government agencies and the public.
  • Foster customer relationships.
  • Understand company’s capabilities completely and accurately articulate the value that our expertise and products provide.
  • Present and articulate clearly one on one, to small groups, and to large groups.
  • Understand customers’ unique needs, business models, and contracting nuances to find competitive edge in proposal submittals and negotiations.
  • Ensure the customer perspective is defined, maintained, developed, monitored, and communicated to senior staff (and internal teams, as applicable).
  • Assure own and department personnel comply with company’s policies, sound business practices and compliance with applicable regulations and requirements.
  • Conduct briefings for senior staff and customer and prospective customer representatives. 
  • Foster ethical conduct, practices, and personal integrity throughout company to ensure  ability to attract and retain customers in a highly competitive environment.
  • Travel to domestic and international locations as assigned.
  • Other duties may be assigned.



The Senior Vice President of Operations directly supervises VPs, Directors, and Managers, including:

  • VP Production Operations

  • VP Programs

  • VP Advanced & Special Programs

  • VP Engineering 


Experience and Skills


  • Deep understanding of Program Management and problem resolving.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.

  • Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors.

  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.

  • Ability to adhere to workplace rules.

  • Knowledge of defense contracting arena and operating requirements in that environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience with both domestic and international defense contracts and practices.
  • Knowledge of ITAR, FAR, DFAR regulations.
  • Ability to motivate and maintain effective working relationships with staff and partners.
  • Ability to develop operations strategy and goals in alignment with overall company objectives.
  • Demonstrated success and leadership of program execution and operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with customers and senior leadership team resulting in high levels of performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Solid presentation skills and the ability to communicate, influence, and gain commitment of stakeholders.
  • Excellent knowledge of the customer organization and close personal relationships with key decision-makers.
  • Supervisory and administrative skills including the ability to select, appraise, motivate, and develop subordinates.
  • Ability to meet eligibility requirements for at least a top secret clearance.
  • Ability to rely on experience and make good judgement decisions to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to successfully work to reach company goals in an environment with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively assess performance, set strategies aligned with the business, and to drive continuous improvements and solutions into the operations.

  • Ability to analyze data, measurements, and other information to reach accurate conclusions.

  • Ability to think analytically and produce accurate analysis, while applying good judgment to conduct assigned responsibilities accurately and effectively.

  • Proficient in MS Office.





  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • 15 or more years of progressive experience in the aerospace/defense industry with increasing responsibility in management positions where excellent contract performance and employee management skills have been demonstrated.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required level of government clearance (Requires US Citizenship).



  • MBA or Master’s Degree preferred.



  • Office and or manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.

  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (computer usage).

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

  • May work extended hours or weekends.

  • May have some exposure to the manufacturing environment with potential exposure to uncontrolled climate conditions and potential exposure to noise, dust and hazardous chemicals/waste.




  • Moderate travel may be required internationally, domestically and or locally.
