Integration Team, CONOPS & First Flight

The Kratos Space CONOPS & First Flight Integration (CFFI) team for our Edge/Tactical Solutions (ETS) business works collaboratively with commercial and federal customers to understand customer concepts of operations (CONOPS), develop needs-based use cases, guide Kratos Edge product and solution technology roadmaps and prioritize/implement customer and channel partner proofs and pilot demos.

The CFFI team leverages innovative commercial Kratos Edge solution technologies to solve customer technical and business challenges; reduce risk through early proof of concept demonstrations; maturation of solutions through first flight or first article integration; and support of solution on-boarding (advocacy & adoption).

The Role

As an Applications Software Development Engineer for the ETS CFFI Team, you will be responsible for software development / customization required for prototyping, implementation, test, and deployment of our cloud-based OpenSpace Edge Software Defined Network (SDN) solutions to successfully demonstrate operation and performance for tactical Edge communication applications (SATCOM ground terminals / gateways and Multi-access Edge Compute (MEC) deployments).

Responsibilities

ETS CFFI team members focus on understanding customer’s technical requirements, operational objectives, use cases and implementation challenges/constraints to architect, develop, and test the optimal solution. This position is responsible for all of the software development/implementation aspects within the system architecture and will work closely with other technical, management, and sales disciplines to provide customer-focused solutions:

  • Develop complete understanding and expertise of our OpenSpace Edge SDN platform for gateway, terminal and MEC deployments
  • Understand customer operational / performance needs for deriving/defining software architecture or corresponding design implementation and configuration details to ensure success
  • Wide range of hands-on tasks including:
    • System-level engineering
    • Software development (new or customization), integration and test
    • System administration and deployment configuration
    • Provide direct customer support of pilot demonstrations (travel may be required)
    • Provide product feedback to product teams based on customer application experiences
    • Support product team with development or I&T tasks (when availability allows)

Experience and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Networking or related field, technical degree preferred. May consider equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • 5 or more years of experience
  • Demonstrate a firm grasp of SDN, NFV and Cloud computing concepts
    • Controller, Orchestration, Data / Management / Control Planes
  • Experience deploying Cloud environments, Edge devices, VM’s, and related tools
    • Azure, AWS, OpenStack, VMWare, VirtualBox, Docker
    • Multi-access Edge Compute (MEC), Radio Access Node (RAN)
  • Experience with Orchestration Tools Experience with OpenDaylight (ODL) or other technologies used for network device control Experience with VNF development and implementations Experience deploying containers using Kubernetes (k8s) or lightweight Kubernetes (k3s) and Helm charts
    • MANO, ONAP, Cisco NSO
  • Experience using infrastructure / deployment configuration tools Strong understanding of commodity LAN/WAN infrastructure, routers, and administration
    • YAML, Ansible, Terraform
  • System administration experience in one or more of the following UNIX/Linux variants:
    • Red Hat, CentOS, Debian, SUSE
  • Experience with network infrastructure tools and knowledge of network technologies including
    • MPLS, OSPF, Routing, IP, TCP/IP, ICMP, Wireshark, SNMP and Multicast
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting and consultative skills, verbally and written Experience with distributed multi-disciplined technical teams U.S. citizen and ability to attain and maintain a security clearance (Secret, TS/SCI)
    • Experience with technical support directly with customers / end-users

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree or equivalent in Network, Signal Processing or related field
  • Familiarity with Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Lifecycle Service Orchestration (LSO) standard interfaces
  • Familiarity with Network monitoring tools such as Nagios, PRTG, etc.
  • Experience with web interfaces (REST, HTML, XML)
  • Experience with scripting using Python or similar language
  • Experience supporting telecommunications network (4G/5G) with monitoring/management applications
  • Experience with Agile development models
  • Experience with Satcom or tactical communications
  • Secret or TS/SCI security clearance

Competitive salary based on experience and education
Salary Range $98k-$120k per year
