Job Description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the integrity and compliance of Kratos Unmanned Arial Systems (KUAS) quality system. The Director of Quality will manage with a strong sense of quality ownership, strategic thinking, creative thinking, and the drive to identify functional problems and develop effective and practical solutions while assuring industry standards are achieved through continuous improvements.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Management of the operations of a diverse workforce including Quality Sr. Managers, Quality Managers, Manufacturing Quality Engineers, Supplier Quality Engineers, Internal Auditors, Inspectors, Analysts, and Receiving Inspectors.

  • Responsible for the quality groups across Kratos UAS facilities which today include Roseville, Sacramento, McClellan and Oklahoma City.

  • Responsible for validating the quality of the products and services provided by KUAS.

  • Responsible for assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of the processes utilized within the manufacturing arena.

  • Ensure quality requirements and standards are developed, applied and maintained for the development and manufacture of products within KUAS.

  • Ensure that the metrics collected provide a true view on the status of the processes.

  • Assist with the manufacturing effort to ensure that products are produced with the appropriate level of quality and integrity.

  • Serve as a Quality Assurance consultant to the business unit for issues pertaining to the adherence to quality standards from incoming inspection of supplier’s material to the final inspection of KUAS manufactured products.

  • Manage and direct the adherence to the Quality procedures, systems, processes and customer requirements for the maintenance of all necessary quality records and documentation.

  • Ensure effective methods for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection are applied as designed and documented to meet quality standards and requirements.

  • Ensure systems and processes are implemented and adhered to in order to ensure product quality.  Processes shall begin at the inspection of incoming product through all phases of the production processes ending with the shipment and delivery of quality and in spec product.

  • Hire, supervise, and review performance of all direct reports. Ensure that the duties, responsibilities, and authorities of all staff members is clearly defined and communicated.

  • Reviews all error reports and responses prior to submission to the customer.

  • Serves as ISO management representative for reviewing and evaluating the KUAS Quality Management System. Plans and directs the ISO/AS required audits. Conducts management review, reports status, and makes recommendations of direction consistent with continuous improvement.

  • Develops, recommends, and approves ultimate short- and long-range goals and objectives to maintain an environment of continuous quality improvement.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable military and industry standards and specifications

  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining ISO9001 and AS91000 programs as well as specific procedures and the adherence thereto.

  • Perform long range planning to assure workflow and manning are balanced as effectively as possible

  • Review contracts for quality requirements.

  • Perform on site evaluations, surveys and audits of vendor and sub-contractor quality systems, and production capabilities.

  • Lead the effort to improve the performance of our supply base.

  • Establish a robust supplier rating system.

  • Establish a risk-based audit program for the supply base.

  • Review designs, engineering changes, and related documents for conformance to quality requirements

  • Prepare letters, reports, presentations, and briefings on quality-related matters for customers and Senior management

  • Interface with customer Quality Assurance Representatives for scheduling of quality audits and corrective actions

  • Responsible for investigating, as appropriate, any component, subsystem, or system failures.

  • Responsible for maintaining calibration schedule and up-to-date calibration of all inspection/measurement equipment

  • Responsible for overseeing the conduct of Internal Quality Audits and monitor corrective actions

 

Other Job Functions

  • Proactive interface with customers and suppliers to establish and maintain high-level of awareness of customer/supplier personnel and quality-related impressions of KUAS, and in response to any quality-related issues as necessary

  • Create and maintain files, records, supplier histories, etc., as required

  • Coordinate personnel actions with the site General Manager, Human Resources Manager, and other department managers, as required

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Engineering or related technical field plus 5 years of experience managing a Quality organization in an aerospace environment.

  • Minimum of 8 years managing in a manufacturing environment.  

  • Working knowledge of applicable industrial and military standards and specifications

  • Experience conducting training and troubleshooting process problems strongly preferred

  • ISO 9001 and AS9100 experience strongly preferred

  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding and small hand tools)
