GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Sr. Manager, Production Engineering, is a leadership position reporting to the Vice-President of Production Operations. This position is responsible for the oversight, management and direction of Production Engineering and Integrated Product Team resources to achieve overall production and program objectives here at KUAS.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Accountable for researching, recommending, and implementing new production technologies.  

  • Provides leadership to Manufacturing Engineering Manager and functional organization and Integrated Product Team Managers to ensure schedules are being met.

  • Serves as Operations SME for program start up and transition from design to production.

  • Serves as the primary interface between production operations and systems engineering. (Translates engineering requirements into production requirements and ensures effective integration of individual program requirements and all engineering changes with the goal of improving product quality/reliability and reducing cost).

  • Provides leadership to production operations team to identify and implement productibility improvements that reduce cost and improve product quality.

  • Represents Production Operations in Configuration Management Board activities.

  • Ensures product integrity through sound MRB dispositions of nonconforming hardware.

  • Implements engineering changes that result in reduced cost and improved product quality.

  • Ensures effective transition of systems integration and test capability from program IPT’s to production.

  • Supports technical training and development of Production Engineering resources.

  • Interfaces with the customer and other company personnel on production related issues.

  • Keeps internal and external customers informed of project schedules and status.

  • Participates in proposal development, providing work estimates, assumptions and risks with regard to the production engineering efforts

  • Identifies risks, develops mitigation plans and deploys suitable planning to meet departmental objectives.

  • Directs, monitors, and appraises staff performance

  • Provides training, advice and assistance to other departments as required

  • Effective and frequent communication with internal customers, senior management, Program Managers and program personnel promoting a cohesive team.

  • May have frequent contact with customers, business partners, and/or suppliers as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards and as directed by management

  • A thorough understanding of formal systems engineering, development technologies, and applicable military specifications and standards.

  • Demonstrated negotiation and team building skills.

  • Ability to direct goal oriented activities of a matrixed organization.

  • Strong combination of technical, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in managing, tracking, and reporting technical and cost performance metrics

  • Ability to work with minimal oversight

  • Ability to travel
  • Proficient with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline

  • 10+ years of experience as a program or engineering manager, preferably on DoD acquisition programs/projects.

  • Minimum of 7 years managing, coaching, developing, mentoring employees and teams

  • May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship). 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Primarily uses computer and phone in an office environment.

  • Some exposure to field and/or manufacturing environments with potential exposure to uncontrolled climate conditions and potential exposure to noise, dust, and hazardous chemicals.

  • May work extended hours or weekends.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • 0-15% - May be required between KUAS locations and vendor sites
