Job Description:


Candidate will have experience in data collection, document preparation, and editing, preferably for simulators and training devices. Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards and specifications regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers on a variety of technical publications and Engineering CDRL deliveries. Take and generate meeting minutes when needed. Assist in writing and editing of technical documentation to include training device, description, installation, operation, maintenance, and repair parts listing. Interpret engineering documentation to include mechanical and electrical drawings. Interact with hardware, electrical and software engineers during document preparation. Provide inputs to graphic illustrators to generate artwork for inclusion in technical documentation. Review manufacturer's catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment. Maintain records and files of work and revisions.  Confer with customer representatives, vendors, plant executives, or publisher to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication.  Review published materials and recommend revisions and/or changes based on new program requirements. A college degree with 2 years of proven technical writing experience or approximately 5 or more years of technical writing or equivalent experience is required.









  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite, and especially MS Word, MS Power Point, and MS Excel, and Adobe Acrobat

  • Familiarity with various aspects of technical documentation to include theory of operation, installation, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair parts listing

  • The ability to interpret engineering documentation to include mechanical and electrical drawings

  • The ability to interact with hardware, electrical, and software engineers during document preparation

  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions

  • Able to provide input to graphic illustrators to generate artwork for inclusion in technical documentation

  • Arrange for text generation, duplication, and distribution of material

  • Assist in laying out material for publication. Analyze developments in specific field to determine need for revisions in previously published materials and development of new material

  • Review manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment

  • Draw sketches to illustrate specified materials or assembly sequence


  • Able to select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material

  • Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail

  • Interview production and engineering personnel and read journals and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods

  • Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedures and detail

  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform via written, oral, and visual media


Experience and Skills:


Required –

  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office, especially MS Word

  • Knowledge of XML and/or Arbortext

  • Excellent English language skills

  • Good interpersonal communication skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to interact with hardware, electrical, and software engineers
  • Ability to interpret engineering documentation to include mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced technical environment

  • Bachelors degree in related field and  a minimum 2 years technical writing experience or

  • Five years experience in technical writing experience
