Job Description:

 

The Press Operator manufactures product using hydraulic press process.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The duties and responsibilities listed below apply to all levels of Press Operators.  Each level of Press Operator has additional duties and responsibilities listed.

 

Press Operator ALL

  • Operates a variety of hydraulic presses to make compression-molded products.
  • Supports and exhibits the focus of zero defects as well as right-the-first-time approach.
  • Inspects finished products for conformance to specifications.
  • Uses digital instruments and measuring devices.
  • Operates machinery to include hydraulic presses, ovens, hand tools, scales and cutting tools.
  • Handles, applies, stores and disposes of composite parts, molding compounds, resins and solvents.
  • Follows FOD (foreign object prevention) practices.
  • Complies with established safety directives.
  • Complies with established QMS procedures.

 

Press Operator I

  • Works under close supervision.
  • Specific duties and responsibilities for this level include:

Press Operator II

  • Works under limited supervision.
  • May work from verbal instructions.
  • Sets up press prior to run.  May load/unload specific tooling as required.

Press Operator III

  • Works under minimal supervision.
  • Responsible for training less skilled Press Operators.
  • May work from engineering drawings, rough sketches or manuals.
  • Works from manufacturers' specification to determine temperature range of material, required pressure and calculate surface area of tools to convert surface area to required PSI.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Press Operator I

  • Preferably 1 year hands-on experience in manufacturing production.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively both written and verbally.
  • Must be able to demonstrate accurate basic math skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the accurate use of a tape measure.

 

Press Operator II

  • Basic computer skills with the ability to navigate around files.
  • Preferably 2 years hands-on experience in composite manufacturing.
  • Typical qualifications for this level include an intermediate level of:

Press Operator III

  • Preferably 5 years hands-on experience in composite manufacturing.

Experience and Skills:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires high school education or equivalent.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship). 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May work extended hours or weekends. 
  • Exposed to noise and hazardous.
  • Standing, walking, occasionally sitting. 
  • Manipulating materials. 
  • Work with hand tools and related equipment.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries heavy objects.

 

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 

0-5% - May be required between KUAS locations
