Job Description:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for practical understanding of the required system(s) as well as providing engineering and technical recommendations as needed. Work with and direct electrical engineer(s) and technician(s) as needed. Activities may include but are not limited to: design, analysis, review and build of equipment, preparation and performance of qualification and acceptance tests, performance of system integration and testing, and operation of support equipment during launch operations. Must be able to design and draw wiring schematic diagrams for complex ground support equipment and ordnance systems and integrate electronic/mechanical components into space flight vehicles. Must also be able to develop and implement various procedures and work instructions necessary to perform the job functions for initial build, integration and launch operations. Must have excellent communication skills to develop and deliver presentations to the customers. May require up to 40% travel to support integration and launch operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

PRIMARY –

  • Design, analyze, build and test electrical systems for suborbital launch vehicles. 
  • Test and operate electrical systems for suborbital launch vehicles. Generate test plans, document and analyze test results, generate post-test reports, and make engineering recommendations.  
  • Develop and review system requirements, configuration documents and wiring schematics to ascertain appropriate test specifications, equipment, procedures, and objectives.
  • Direct and participate in subsystem integration and launch field assembly and checkout prior to final vehicle assembly. Support countdown operations by arming electrical systems and operating ground support equipment.
  • Develop and implement Interface Control Documents (ICD) per mission requirements.

 SECONDARY –

 

  • Generate wiring schematics, develop circuit boards and any other ground support or electronic components necessary to execute a mission requirement.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:  Provide Senior Engineering/Technical leadership and expertise in a team environment. Lead teams during flight vehicle integration and launch activities.

Experience and Skills:

JOB SKILLS:

Required –

  • Knowledge of MIL SPEC engineering design and development of components and hardware
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of complex electrical systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Valid drivers license
  • Must work well in a team environment

Preferred –

  • Security Clearance at the level of SECRET or higher
  • Military communications or electronics experience or training 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering and 10 years of experience in the Aerospace field
  • Knowledge or Orcad or Altium Designer systems
  • Design knowledge of schematics and electronics components and circuits

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and work in elevated areas such as ladders or platforms while performing job duties. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hardhats, gloves and steel-toed shoes will be worn during all hazardous activities such as equipment lifting and vehicle loading operations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
