Job Description:

The Kratos Lanham office has an opening for a Staff Orbit Analyst. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing software development for a flight dynamics software product as well as performing orbit analysis and providing satellite mission engineering support.




  • Assist with orbit database development for COTS products
  • Participate in testing integrated interfaces
  • Assist with maintaining established orbit design and optimization guidelines
  • Utilize orbital-based analysis tools to meet operational objectives
  • Support ground software checkout for accuracy in meeting operational objectives
  • Maintain accurate tracking station pointing data
  • Maintain accurate on board satellite ephemeris and support data
  • Maintain satellite position and attitude within specifications
  • Routine orbit determination
  • Antenna viewing angle, sun and lunar eclipse report generation
  • Sensor intrusion predictions
  • Coordinate with operations personnel on issues related to orbit determination and ephemeris generation, orbital position uncertainty estimates, collision prediction and maneuver design


Experience and Skills:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Must be capable of real time support with solid skills in orbital operations (orbit determination, attitude estimation, space system visibility with ground assets, and anomaly resolution)
  • 2-5 years experience in Satellite/Aerospace operations environment desired
  • Must work well in a tight-knit team environment
  • Must have reliable work attendance
  • 2-5 years related experience required
  • Bachelor degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry


Desired Competencies

  • Celestial Mechanics: Complete knowledge of celestial mechanics, spherical geometry, optimization methods, orbit determination theory and methods and statistical analysis
  • Orbital Mechanics: Complete ability to design trajectories and orbits in space, determine vehicle orbit and attitude correction maneuvers, perform trade studies and generate optimal trajectory timelines
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to collect, organize, synthesize and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and implement solutions
  • Collaboration: Consistently and proactively works with team members to solve complex problems
  • Communications: Able to problem solve in a clear and concise manner, have strong communication skills and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
