Our Lanham office has an opportunity available for an Associate Systems Engineer. The Associate Systems Engineer is involved in all phases of the development process and participates in the establishment of the system and maintains the system performance.  The Associate Systems Engineer works to assist the Sr. Systems Engineer with preparing users and by providing references and support.

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Be involved in all phases of the development process including: design, coding, testing, and related support activities

  • Participate in the establishment of the system by executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of PC and server hardware, software, LAN and WAN networks and operating and system management systems

  • Maintain system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning

  • Troubleshoot system hardware, software, networks and operating and system management systems

  • Design and run system load/stress testing

  • Escalate application problems to vendor

  • Assist Sr. Systems Engineer with preparing users by designing and conducting training programs

  • Provide references and support to Sr. Systems Engineer

  • Study information from suppliers regarding materials and components to be utilized

  • Discuss systems problems with managers and users to determine their exact nature.

  • Define the goals of the system and the steps necessary to achieve them

  • Use techniques such as structured analysis, mathematical model building, and cost analysis to plan the system and needed modifications

  • Determine necessary data to be entered, processing procedures, and structures the output to achieve users' needs

  • Prepare diagrams and exhibits to explain the proposed system to managers and users in understandable format

  • Prepare a cost-benefit analysis to determine whether implementation of system is financially feasible

  • After acceptance of proposal, draw up specifications, diagrams, and charts for programmers to follow in writing software instructions

 

Experience and Skills:

Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards

Ability to report prototype or product flaws diplomatically and suggest necessary changes in a positive manner

Ability to apply sound object-oriented design methodologies

Ability to create and animate MIMIC diagrams based upon satellite payload documentation  

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or related technology field

 

Requires 0-3 years of systems engineering experience

 

Basic understanding of LAN/WAN networks

 

Requires willingness and ability to travel outside the United States for five to seven weeks a year
