Job Description:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing mechanical CAD design services by creating, developing, and managing electro-mechanical components and systems in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.   

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Work independently to design mechanical or electro-mechanical components, or system of components, from inception to production in a timely manner.

  • Work independently to resolve design problems and/or malfunctions expeditiously.

  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor software.

  • Produce accurate and complex mechanical drawings and 3-D solid models in Autodesk Inventor CAD software in support of engineering and manufacturing.

  • Interpret drawings, specifications, work instructions, and rough sketches to design layouts.

  • Design complex electronic packaging assemblies.

  • Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and edit parts list throughout the design process.

  • Work collaboratively with engineers and manufacturing personnel.

  • Design for cost-effective manufacturability, repeatability.

  • Identify and source items such as connectors, fasteners, and other materials, parts as required.

  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, work instructions and component identifications.

  • Must be at assigned worksite during assigned hours 100% of time; less PTO, FML/STD/LTD.

     

    ADDITIONAL PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of Orcad Capture and Allegro PCB Editor.

  • Generate and maintain schematic symbols and footprint libraries.

  • Create analog, digital and RF electronic circuit board designs of moderate complexity.

  • Familiarity with multilayer, buried and blind via circuit board layouts.

  • Design circuit card assemblies containing SMT, thru-hole and BGA components.

Experience and Skills:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:   

  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.

  • Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors.

  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.

  • Ability to adhere to workplace rules.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently.

  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.

  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) practices per ASME Y14.5 standards.

  • Knowledge of CNC machining processes, sheet metal fabrication and welding techniques.

  • Working knowledge of MIL Standards and IPC Standards.

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • AS degree, technical school credentials in related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience

  • Intermediate experience with MS Office. 

  • Formal AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor training (w/certificate).

  • Formal OrCAD Capture, Cadence Allegro PCB Editor training a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Office environment

Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time

Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboard, mouse, phone, 10-key)

Ability to work effectively in a rapidly changing environment with multiple deadlines

Limited travel, foreign and domestic, may be required
